Why deleting 691 pages boosted this brand’s AI search presence

Shipping new content is fun. Deleting old content? Not so much. But if you want to win in AI search right now, hitting "purge" might be your best move.

Storyblok just audited 4,546 pages on their site and promptly deleted 691 of them.

Charlene Kale, who leads content at Storyblok, revealed how they tackled a decaying content backlog and turned it into a massive win for Generative Engine Optimization (GEO).

The 3-Step Audit Playbook

  • Phase 1 (Export): Pulled every page from their CMS alongside publish dates and titles.

  • Phase 2 (Tech Pass): Used Otterly AI and Peak AI to spot schema gaps, duplicate content, and indexing bottlenecks.

  • Phase 3 (Manual Review): Hand-reviewed backlink profiles and overall content value.

They ruthlessly cut outdated campaign pages, dead product features, and old brand messaging.

Total timeline: One month to audit, one quarter to execute.

The Results

  • 15% faster indexing: Rebuilds speed up when API stories cache faster, leading to quicker crawls from both Google and AI engines.

  • 5% lift in AI brand mentions: A direct bump across their tracked prompt sets in engines like ChatGPT and Perplexity.

Why This Matters Right Now

AI search tools retrieve live pages in real time. That 2022 pricing page, discontinued feature announcement, or outdated case study sits right there in the crawl space, ready to be hallucinated or quoted directly to a warm prospect.

Pruning your dead weight keeps your search footprint clean, accurate, and authoritative.

ChatGPT just put Reddit in timeout (and Google is silently backing away)

If your current marketing strategy relies on a random guy named u/SEO_God_420 giving your product a glowing review on r/marketing, I have some terrifying news.

ChatGPT just ghosted Reddit. Hard.

According to brand-new data from Klaas Foppen over at Promptwatch, OpenAI took a giant pair of hedge trimmers to Reddit’s citation share on August 14.

The Great Reddit Purge

  • The Cliff Drop: From late July to early August, Reddit comfortably snagged ~3.8% of all ChatGPT citations. On August 14, that collapsed to under 1%. It’s currently hovering around a microscopic 0.5%. That’s a brutal 86% relative drop almost overnight.

  • The Quiet Ghosting (Google edition): Google isn’t pulling a dramatic mid-August break-up, but they are slowly sliding out of Reddit’s DMs. Reddit citations in Google AI Overviews dropped ~11%, while AI Mode citations of Reddit dipped over 30%.

What actually happened? Nobody knows for sure yet. It could be OpenAI tweaking their "query fanout" behavior (which shifted on August 8), an intentional algorithm update to filter out unverified forum noise, or a massive data-collection hiccup.

How to act on this without panicking

  • Audit your current setup: Before you fire your forum team, double-check your own conversion volume around mid-August to see if this reflects real user drop-off.

  • Track who took the crown: As Reddit drops, somebody else is winning those citations. Keep a close eye on whether Google and ChatGPT are replacing Reddit threads with niche blogs, authoritative publishers, or first-party docs. At Click Raven, we are closely tracking to find out what’s being preferred now, so stay in the loop.

  • Diversify your GEO play: Relying on a single third-party platform for AI visibility is like building a house on a swamp. If you want a clean, accurate footprint, double down on high-authority, direct-source content.

How to build an AI E-E-A-T auditor in 10 minutes (no coding needed)

Google’s E-E-A-T guidelines are notoriously messy to audit because there’s no clean API endpoint for "trustworthiness." But applying broad, unstructured quality frameworks is precisely where AI coding agents excel.

In a recent guide for Search Engine Land, James Allen showed how to build an AI-powered E-E-A-T checker using Claude Code inside Claude Desktop.

What the tool does:

  • Bypasses scraper blocks: Uses a headless Python browser to render full JavaScript pages and capture raw HTML.

  • Applies Google's quality framework: Evaluates site content against stored E-E-A-T guidelines without pulling in copyrighted text.

  • Generates client-ready reports: Automatically compiles scored assessments into formatted Word documents.

The best part? You don't need a background in software development to set it up—just an AI coding environment and a GitHub account to save your project's memory files.

If you want to clone his open-source repository and run an automated E-E-A-T audit on your own site, check out the full step-by-step tutorial here.

Google August 2026 Spam Update

Google just wrapped up its global August 2026 spam update, which quietly swept through every language in just under three days.

If your organic traffic didn't take a dramatic nose-dive, congratulations! Google’s algorithm doesn't think you're a digital garbage distributor (for now).

Until next time,
